No Right
Way ©Wendy Ealey 2000
Chorus (1st half of)
When there is no right way
When there is no clear path
Once you have made your choice
What of the aftermath
I look in the mirror and what do I see
A serious woman stares straight back at me
She asks me her questions with each waking moment
When sleeping the questions invade dreams to torment
She's lived on this planet a good many years
She's lucky, she's had very little to fear
She's had the luxury to gaze at her navel
But if life was harder then would she prove able?
Full Chorus
When there is no right way
When there is no clear path
Once you have made your choice
What of the aftermath
Would you have peaceful nights
Would you know in your heart
That you have done your best
And acted in good part.
For about 30 minutes of every night
I look at the horrors, I hear the plight
Of people whose lives have been torn asunder
I watch from my couch and I pause to ponder
I sit and I wonder what I would do
If we were in danger would I help you
Or would I run hiding to save myself
Would I risk my life to save someone else?
Full Chorus
I imagine the choices that I might make
I think of the chances that I would take
Any then I remember there's just no choice in it
When fanatical forces decide to begin it
In Bosnia, Timor, Iraq and Ireland
Man being bloody to his fellow man
The fates of so many like flour for bread
They scatter and pummel them and leave them for dead…
